Hey hey guys.

So, as you know, we all expirience such different things in our lives, most of us know a whole lexicon of different - usually unhelpful - information, but like they say, 'One man's trash is another man's treasure,' and all that.

This is a thread for writers to ask other writers and readers for help with certain problems they are having in writing about a particular object, society, process, emotion, etc.

I have seen a whole bunch of threads around asking 'Who knows about Weaponary?', 'I need to know about ships.' or, in my case, 'One of my characters is going to be pregnant - what the heck is that gonig to be like for them?' Because I don't know!

So, I figure - let's combine them. Save mess.

If you have done your research and fonud nothing helpful, or it is to do with an emotion you can not portray, etc. Come here!

NOTES
This is not a thread to come in and ask, 'I need a plot, please help!' or 'I need help making up a whole culture based on the Vikings!' You do have to actually write the novel yourself. ; )

An example of something acceptable would be, 'I want to describe how one of my character's weapons was forged. It's a pretty simple steel blade, but I don't know the process.' or 'How are some ways (or basis ways) my makeshift Ship-world would shield itself from the nearest Star?'

Feel free to give people links to sites they might find helpful; as long as all the credit is given to authors.

What a splendid idea!

Can I also suggest that anyone willing & able to answer questions pops by and posts a quick list of "stuff I know about" so we get an idea of what's in our collective knowledge pool? For example, I'd be keen to find someone who knows about modern handguns.

My "stuff I know about and have a pile of reference books on" is as follows:

Martial Arts (traditional and modern, especially Chinese, not MMA).
Taoism.
Modern Occultism (Hermetic / Ceremonial / Pagan).
Historical / Medieval Occultism (a bit, not so much).
Bodybuilding & Powerlifting.

I don't know alot of any one thing, but my bigger "stuff" areas:

Identity: characters trying to figure out about themselves(alot of experience in that!) and motivations

Masks-not just metaphorical, though that too, but I'm a big fan of masks, including histories of various countries, uses-so I have some knowledge in the area.

Also I know about OCD/ADHD.

Also, Eccentric type personalities (I mean REALLY eccentric) ;)

Good idea. We should almost starts a "knowledge base" subforum, like the uber writers-wiki, for all these stickied threads! (Which this one no doubt will deserve to be in short order).

I'll contribute when I can with whatever I've got.

I wish I had a question to start this off... :)

I'm glad you guys like it. x)

The pooled knowledge is a good idea, I'll get right on adding that to the first post. I'll also add things people have been looking for, so we can try to match it up. I feel so organized!

Well I have something to start it off, though It's quite specific. Since, one of my characters is going to be Pregnant and havnig had no expirience of that myself, I'd like to know what it might be like for her. So, anyone who has expirienced it or had a partner/parent/friend being pregnant while you lived with them, etc. Help me out here! Also, any herbs, teas, concoctions that may have been used in a medieval time period might be nice, though I know quite a bit of that myself.

By the way, masks is quite cool! See what I mean? Such random, beautiful knowledge!

Also, while we're at it, things I know about:

Classic cultures (General sense) - Norse, Greecan, Roman, Eygptian, Celtic
Archaeology
Prehistoric-Medieval Medicine
Philosophical Theories
Modern Wicca/Paganism
Islam - well, I did it for 2 years in RE. XD I don't know how in depth that one'll be.

I can sum up pregnant experince(not me, my better half) in this: Mood swings. I mean at the snap of fingers mood swings. Also strange cravings for strange foods at odd times day or night. I don't know what specifically you want to know, I can go by my experiences with her. AJust let me know if there's something you want to know specific.

Also I know about OCD/ADHD.
