since so many members are Aussies, and especially Erebus, I thought Id ask....
do you guys submit manuscripts to Australian publishers as well as the big ones in the US/UK? Whats the Oz market like?

Most of the big publishers here are imprints or subsidiaries of the big houses in the UK or USA etc. We have Voyager - Harper Collins and a few others, but it's just as difficult here to break into one of the big publishing houses as it is elsewhere. Personally, I submit wherever I am able to do so, unsolicited. There's something about collecting multi-national rejection slips! ;)

For stories, we have some good magazines like Aurealis and the new one, Andromeda Spaceways. There's also a host of other online and e-zine publishers, as there are in most countries now, I guess.

So the big Australian authors (Peter Carey is Aussie, yes?) - do they publish in Australia first or go directly to the US or the UK?
