Sure, I regularly read other stuff.

At various points I've read Jackie Collins books, Sherlock Holmes books, autobiographies, history books.

You name it, I've probably read it at some point or another.

I also read all sorts of magazines to break up the monotony.

Fond as I am of Fantasy... its not the only good fiction out there. ;)

I sometimes read historical books just as a break for the overload of fantasy and sf...

I don't mind reading some science books when I'm not reading Fantasy.
I finished up book called The Last Mortal Generation recently - ll about the concept of why we die and stopping it. Interesting stuff...

I think what Im tired of is this trashy, boring, world we live in and that is why fantasy books are the only ones that get my time. :)

I usally read a couple of detective stories anything with a decent plot from Sherlock Holmes to Stephenie Plum. I have found that of all the main stream fiction Detective/Mystery have the best writers.

I have on accasion checked out the best sellers top 10 and have been shocked by the poor quaility of the writing and editing that goes into them. The amount of spelling mistakes and giant plot holes you get in a normal fiction book would not past muster for a Dragonlance or a Star Trek novel.

That's because SF&F fans are much more intelligent and thus have higher standards of quality ;)

"That's because SF&F fans are much more intelligent and thus have higher standards of quality"

Then how do you explain the fact that the SFF shelves are groaning under the weight of a dozen Jordan books, half a dozen Goodkind books, a dozen Brooks, a dozen Feist, and even more Eddings?

And then there's the media tie-in section....

Sounds like a dodgy argument, eventine.

There are tiers of readers neologik, and within each tier are sub tiers.
So while SF&F readers have a higher IQ than the general population, They themselves are broken up into various sub tiers of intelligence, with each one reading books of various categories:
Media tie-in
Goodkind
Williams/Martin/Hobb/ all those other generally agreed upon good fantasy stereotypes
Gaiman/Carrol/ any one else doing something a bit different.

All though that does get away from editing and plot holes a bit.

Or maybe I'm crazy and it was a joke.
