Branching out from the SFFWorld 2010 review thread here. Whilst reading that thread, and due to comments from Hobbit, I had a few ideas that I wanted to suggest.
1. 'Top X books for Situation Y' articles
So, in this sort of article, we'd have a number of members (Say, two members) give their opinion on a certain number of books to fit a situation. As an example, Hobbit and Rob could list 5 books each that they think would be a great starting place for people new to fantasy, and the next week/month could be Werthead and Evil Agent listing their top 5 longer series. It promotes community involvement and I think it'd be a good supplement to our existing recommendation threads.
2. Read difficulty ratings
We've got a number of members, myself included, who can struggle with the harder texts and longer books, so I think it'd be nice if we had some form of system to give a good idea of the difficulty. Obviously YA and Teen books would sit at the easier end of the scale, Modesitt and Moon would likely be in the near middle and, finally, something like Tolkien's Silmarillion would be higher on the scale.
3. Slightly more focus on smaller titles/YA/teen
As I said in the review thread, it might require a third person to do this, but we do have a number of younger/less well-read members around and a focus on YA titles might be good for getting views. And, of course, it'd be nice to see more reviews of newly published writers who aren't necessarily seeing much success.
4. Articles written by members about themselves
It's a bit of a strange one, but hear me out. I think it'd be nice, and again would promote community involvement, if we had occasional articles written by members about how they came into SFF, what they enjoy about it and perhaps even a small recommendation for a book they think should be read.
And finally...
5. An updated 'Meet-The-Staff' page
Just for the fun of it :p
