I have been devouring Fantasy books for years and recently I have been thinking about this book I read many years ago. The main character is called Rolf or Rolfe. It is set in the future(but you do not know that till close to the end). There are many demons and a creature which is the guardian of a special lake whose water can cure injuries and disease. You find out near the end that the main demon was created at the instant of a nuclear explosion by a device designed to change the fabric of the world from one of technology to one of magic, thus saving earth from world war three. I cannot remember the title or the Author, and it is driving me insane. It was a Fantastic story and one that got me hooked on Fantasy books. Can anyone help?

Doesn't sound familiar to me, but it does sound rather interesting. :)

I think I've read this, but can't remember the title. The storyline and name Rolf sound familiar.

Now that I think of it, I did read Saberhagen's Sword's series some years ago. From what I remember, it was pretty good. I think Empire of the East is a prequel to this series.

As far as I could tell Swords and Empire of the East are not related. They may be set in the same world but at very different times.
I was going to say that all his fantasy worlds are the same but the gods masks series has kind of changed (over the series) from the world of Swords to our own ancient greece.

I haven't read his Swords series, is it any good? Empire of the East is difficult to find! Still looking.
