From the Asimov's Political/Religious Discussion Forum, and having to do with the recent Tucson Tragedy... this quote is nothing all that out of the ordinary on the Asimov's Site.
I say again i cant say she or anyone else is the antichrist but there surely is no harm in keeping my mind open and my eyes the same.. In a bibical sense it is very possible and something that should be watched.. 1- she has a wound that should have been fatal and by what could only be described as a miracle she has survived. 2 she is in a position politically to be a world leader. 3 12 peolpe was wounded six were killed 6plus 6 =12plus 6 killed,=666.4 the shooter was found to have a alter to worship the occult.5. already this is being used in ways to stiffen already stiff laws to own and be able to own guns. what is suppose to be right in this country that is all but already taken away. for her to be the antichrist she will have to continue to recover and return to politics and run for president..just a thought not a fact.. what do you think?

One of the reasons that Politics and religion are usually not discussed here (unless they're integral to a book/genre item of our choosing) is that it can cause all sorts of problems.
Feelings usually run high on such things and that leads to people saying things they don't mean or creating a stir, intentionally or unintentionally.
Obviously our hearts and best wishes go out to those involved in any incident of this kind: we just realise that we're an international site and that such matters, on a genre site, are not really relevant.
We have no political/religious discussion area at SFFWorld, as a result.
Unless, of course, you include the GRRM Forum area.

Ummm...
Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't Asimov an Atheist? I seem to recall him as an intellectual who strove for logic and intellect-why would something of that nature be on that site?

Indeed he was a passionate atheist who promoted atheism.
The magazine that bears his name has a website, as you can imagine, and for some strange reason it attracts more than its fair share of far right wingnuts, religious screwballs, and the like... I couldn't take it anymore and finally fell on my sword, posted something totally outrageous and was banned for life.

So, let me get this straight:
This poor woman who was shot should now be added to my already long list of suspects for Antichrist?
*sigh* It's so hard to keep up with this stuff...

Bizarro - but there are a whole lot of christian folk hoping to see the rapture in their lifetime. You can turn just about anything into a sign if you try hard enough.
Agreed - discussing politics and religion will lead to no good.

People with such eccentric beliefs should use their ideas for cheesy prophetic screenplays. I always find it very amusing when people try to use numbers as some sort of clue. You know, you can add three sixes together and get 666, but it doesn't mean anything because you could just as well divide them, multiply them, or anything else to get any number you want. And all in all, numbers don't tell us a thing unless they apply to math and science, and as far as I know there is no science of prophetic number mashing. 6+6+6=666
Wrong.
