Well, the thread title says it all; Im interested in reading some of his stuff, can anyone recommend a good book to start with? They all sound weird and interesting (right up my alley), so Im not sure which one to start with. Just curious. Thanks!

Perdido Street Station is the only one I have read, but it was brilliant. I believe it is also the first book that is featured in the New Crobuzon city he created. While the other books do not share a continuing story, it couldn't still hurt to start with PSS.

Yes start with PSS, and then both of you hurry up and read The Scar. Two amazing books.

Hear hear.

Read everything, except maybe Kraken, which IMO is poor.

I didn't like PSS but I enjoyed The City & The City and Kraken.

Yes, that certainly was the predominant theme of the book.
