1) How many published Fantasy, Science Fiction and Horror writers are there in the world?

2) How many artists in these genres are there?

I'm seriously looking for the answers to these questions so any qualified guess would be most welcome.

Just to clarify, not that I can probably help anyway, but are you looking only for people who are currenlty alive? Or all published sf/f/h writers ever??

Good question, The numbers I'm looking for would be people that are currently alive.

The ISFDB (http://www.sfsite.com/isfdb/stats.html) lists about 24,000 SF/Fantasy/Horror living and dead authors (published in English).

ISFDB (wisely) has broad guidelines for what constitutes speculative fiction, consequently, this total is a superset of might be generally thought of as traditional genre authors.

The actual number of living, active genre authors is probably around 10,000 to maybe 15,000.


No idea on artists/websites. You might try inquiring at RASFW (http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&group=rec.arts.sf.written) or at SFWA (http://www.sfwa.org/ ).
