hello.. apparently I'm new here.. I might slip into lurk mode for a few days (I'm going to a wedding next week and will have no computer access) but I'll probably poke about afterwards.

anyways, my name's laura and i'm a recent grad in art and painting from SUNY alfred and i'm attempting to get my foot into the door with illustration in the fantasy genre..

this is my art site (http://fallenlights.net/)

and some art that I've just recently finished:

wizard (http://fallenlights.net/myth/fantasy_gallery/drawings/thelightwizard.jpg)

no samatory (http://fallenlights.net/myth/fantasy_gallery/drawings/nosamatory.jpg)

witching tree (http://fallenlights.net/myth/fantasy_gallery/drawings/witchingtree.jpg)

Hello and Welcome Laura... I just took a look at your site and I am very impressed. :D

We have an Art Gallery section at SSFWorld where you can showcase your work if you so wish... you can find it HERE (http://www.sffworld.org/gallery/)

Once again... brilliant art on your site.

You can label me a fan, Shadowgirl. Though I realize that I'm picky, a lot of fantasy art comes off really cheesy to me. The average fantasy cover does not appeal to me. But I really like the pics you have there. You're scenery pic, No Samatory, is damn good. It reminded me of the film "Return to Oz" which had some amazing sets. I also like your character shots because they are a throw back to some of the older art styles. It has an organic feel to it, which I'm fond of. I've always felt that there is such thing as artwork that is TOO polished. I like to see brush strokes and pencil marks because I think it adds character and texture. Good stuff.

Oh, and I like the site design too.

cadfael (I know.. i joined up this morning -s-)

alucard : well, I'm the same way -exactly- I do not like the cheese in fantasy art that comes with the industry (big breased women with sword and no clothing type) and I'm a painter by nature, so I too like the 'textured' look.. it is a big thing with me, to be able to see how things are formed..

thanks for the warm welcome -s-

I should like to stroll through no samatory. How might I do this please? And what should I sing when I get there?;)

Mmmm, I really like your "no samatory" drawing. I paint with words, not brushes, however, but I can certainly appreciate good art. If it is all right with you can I use that pic for my desktop? If not, I understand totally. But I would like to know.

yup, you can use it if you wish -s- i don't mind as long as it's not put up on any one's website.

errr... can't sing to get there, that's for sure.. and i don't think i'll go about telling you. Only 2 outsiders from that town (of different races, at least) know of the secret

Good stuff, I especially liked, The Fool. Hopefully, I'll be posting some of my artwork soon.
