Anyone read his three books set in South America?
The War of Don Emmanuel's nether Parts
Senor Vivo and the Coca Lord
The Troublesome Offspring of Cardinal Guzman

They are classified as Literature and not Fantasy but to me they are a type of fantasy. If you need a break from the normal Fantast type ypou should give them a try.

Each one can be read as a stand alone book. I actually started with the second book followed by the third and read the first one last. The second book imo is the best.

I read 2 of his books:

The War of Don Emmanuel's nether parts - A very wierd and disgusting vile book based on a pretence country that is suppose to represent an South American/Mexican country.

I did'nt enjoy it, I admit it was original but it was rather a strange book to read. I didn't know what the purpose of the book was! :(

However, Captian Corelli's Mandolin is an EXCELLENT book. Very witty, uniqui prose and refreshing. The story is based on an Italian solider and a Cephallonian lady during WW2 where the Italians occupuied the Greek Island. The Germans became involved in the story which made the book very cosmopolitian.

The writer has a astonishing knowledge of history based on all these countries and he interprets each character's thoughts and view very well. :)

It is one of the very best books I ever read, it ranks amongst Rushdie's Midnight Children, Stephen King's The Stand and Tolstoy's War and Peace. A weird mixture I know! But I read anything!

Captian Corelli's Mandolin is an EXCELLENT book.

Yep it is. I hate how they made the movie:(.

I think most people would be better off reading the books in the order I read them as I can see how the first book could seem a bit strange and off putting. Dionisio Vivo is one cool character!
