Trying to find a book
A very long time ago I read a sci-fi book.

It was about several planets being used as penal colonies and the planets had organisms that infected humans when they landed, granting each of them an ability based on what planet they were on.

I remember on one planet, the organism ate metal, but if you were strong enough you could protect metal from being destroyed, it was run similar to a feudal system and people were ranked accordingly.

Another planet allowed people to switch bodies while they were sleeping.

A third planet allowed people to change shape, or changed their shape to adapt them to their environment.

There may have been others but that's all I can remember.

One man was duplicated and his duplicates were sent to each planet to infiltrate them and uncover a larger conspiracy.

If anyone could remember the name of this book I would be most appreciative.

Thanks in advance,
Phy~

Jack Chalker's The Four Lords Of The Diamond

There are actually four books, one for each planet. They are Lilith: A Snake In The Grass, Cerberus: A Wolf In The Fold, Charon: A Dragon At The Gate and Medusa: A Tiger By The Tail
