David Eddings' new fantasy series THE DREAMERS, comprising four books, beginning with ZELANA, scheduled for publication in 2003, to HarperCollins UK, in a major deal for mid-seven figures (keeping the tradition he started over a decade ago of selling British rights before a US sale), by Ralph Vicinanza.
Just picked this one up, thought you'd like to know.

He is worth every penny! :)
I always stuck by him and knew he was the best around. No-one would offer millions unless they knew he was that damn good.
I rest my case :)
Here we go......let the anti-Eddings have their usual tiresome bash! :D

He sells... but that does not HAVE to mean he is good... he is just a brand name... he is guarenteed sales becuse the zealots will run out in droves to buy the new books... and if they enjoy what they read... more power to them.. I HAVE to repect that. But I really hope they will not feel ripped off.
But as regards this new series.. obviously I am not going to comment... it is far too early... the books are not even out yet. However I will say no way will I spend money on Eddings until I have had a chance to get the books from the library.. and if I like the first couple then I will buy them... but if I end up with more of the tired same... I will keep my money for something better.
In short... I will give him a chance. :D

Eddings never impressed me, though he didn't disgust me either. A new series? Hmmmm. Well, if he finally does something a bit different, it might be worth a go. If it's another Belgarion/Mallorian/everything else he's ever done, I'll more than likely pass.

I think that is great news. I really enjoyed The Belgariad when I was young. I hope, however, he tries something new and original this time. After The Redemption of Althalus, you can be dang sure that I won't pick it up in hardcover. That is, when it arrives in Canada.

Chances are though that he won't change his style
He is over 70 for god sake! You can't teach a old dog new tricks!:D

I agree with you to a certain extent Belgarion... why should he change what I admit is a winning formula... just not one that I appreciate.
However... the other side of the coin... really great writers do not stagnate like this... they push, try new ideas... take a risk... sometimes they fall flat on their face... but they have the courage to try. They write for fun first and formost... I think Edding (and a few others I must say)... now write with an eye on sales... so stay with what sells... okay if it works for him and his fans... kudos to that.
