i read a series when i was in high school started off with a kid and some old man at some point. old man tells him he has to collect 7 coins one of each metal(bronze,copper, tin, steel, iron, and two other things cant remember) and they go on his belt he has to go to different places or dimensions something about like a rift in space i dont know thanks for helping out the new guy

There were 6 things I think to collect but otherwise it seems to match up.
