I read a short story, most likely in Analog or F&SF around the 1970's.
It had a man who made money by arbitrage of commodities.
That is he bought and sold goods that had slightly different prices in
different markets.

It had the devil, and artist who saw his unmasked face and went insane.

The devil did something to the artist to restore him to sanity.
I remember a quote, when the devils face was revealed which made the
artist go insane, that the devil said about
"bad news from home".

Anyone have any ideas?

thanks in advance

could it be a short by Lewis Padgett (Henry Kuttner and C. L. Moore) who featured Joe the Galactic Junkman. Joe bought high tech stuff from dodgy
aliens and sold them to unsuspecting humans.

Usually the tech or device had a sting in the tail

That is not it. The story focused more on the devil and the artist.
