Hello & Where to Trade Vintage SciFi?

Hello

I've been collecting vintage SciFi paperbacks off and on for years. I particularly like collecting paperbacks from the 60s and early 70s. Some of the older stuff long since out of print can be tricky to find (think early ERB paperback editions, Clarke, Vogt, etc). I have fairly complete collections in varying condition but missing a few here and there and also have extras others may like.

A number of used book store owners have told me a lot of (older) SciFi seems to get collected as it does not seem to circulate back into the stores at the same rate as other genres - and they've learned to price the older stuff accordingly. :p

Rather than buying and selling - does anybody know of any websites were SciFi paperback collectors can simply trade each other directly? Keep in mind some paperbacks are more desirable or much harder to find than others.

This would cut out the 'middle man' and save money.

If not, has a trades or for-sale sub-forum been considered on this forum site?

thanks!

The only trading site I can recall is paperbackswap.com. I know there are others, but I cannot recall them. I know that paperbackswap.com really won't meet your requirements.

I do know that a sub forum for this activity has been considered in the past, and even again recently, and decided against for various valid reasons that I am sure any mod can provide if needed.

Even though that sub forum likely will not be happening soon, I hope you stick around for discussion. :D

Thanks! I've seen that website and briefly considered it. That site is perfect for the 'commodity' paperbacks. But as you surmised, when one is looking for some late 60s ERB paperbacks w/ Frazette cover art in good condition or has some 1960s Asimov PBs to trade in near mint - it just doesn't work.

I'll keep that site in mind for some of my more rank and file stuff.

I'm really surprised at how collectible vintage SciFi paperbacks have become. I had a lot of the old yellow spined DAW stuff when it was new and probably tossed it out at some time. Now I have to painstakingly re-collect it. :) Some of the local used book store owners have commented to me how SciFi buyers pick up their stuff and never bring it back (unlike say Romance or Westerns, etc...?).

Oh I'll stick around - mostly to read threads and find suggestions to add to my 'modern' SciFi and Fantasy reading lists. Thanks for the response!
