Vague info, trying to remember title or author

I read a book a year or 2 ago, with the following as the plot.

A planet recovering from a war in the past between genetically engineered humans vs normal humans.
The genetically modified were killed off except 3 children (maybe 2) and 1 elderly war veteran who ends up helping the children.
The kids are stronger, more intelligent, and 1 is able to sort of interface with networking computer equipment with his mind.
They end up having to run away because 1 of the kids hurts a human, and end up finding some technology hidden away and flying off into space (which ends the book, leading to me wanting to buy the next book)

I know this is a bit vague, and probably a bad way to introduce myself to a community, but it's been driving me crazy that I cannot remember this title or author so I can read more in the series.

I would appreciate help if possible =).

Sounds vaguely Escape/Race to Witch Mountain like but not quite.

Still young adult/children's book though?

It should have been normal adult sci-fi, I only shop in that section, no kids books =P.
I probably didn't do a very good description.
One of the kids hunts, they were raised by families separately.
Anyway, thanks for the reply, hopefully someone will know this.
