Has anyone got thoughts on his books, Cosmos being the most famous? I'd also be interested in comments on "Pale bleu dot" and "contact".

I think that would depend on your sphere of interest, and also on your definitions.

Cosmos is a non-fiction astronomy work (I believe), whereas Contact was pure fiction. Personally, I really enjoyed Contact, and doubtless the movie increased its fame, but older folks (like me alas) have earlier memories of Cosmos (mostly from TV). Who can ever forget the 'billions and billions' of stars?!?

Respectfully,

Someguy

I really enjoyed Contact the novel. Very thought provoking stuff there, religon v. science with faith mixed into it. Movie was good, but as long as the movie was (2HRs +) there was a lot more in the book.

Is the ending different in the book? Because that was the only thoroughly disappointing thing in an otherwise satisfyingfilm.

It's hard to say because
a) I read it a long time ago
b) there was a lot in the middle of the book that affected the ending that was NOT in the film

So (after just typing this and recalling the bits from memory) I would say the ending is a little different.

Has anyone by any chance read a Pale blue dot? Seems like a cool book to sparkle the mind, and fairly recent.

i haven't read Pale Blue Dot, but i can give my two cents on Contact and Cosmos.

Contact: book is so much better than the decently made movie. i read it once, about 10 years ago. it was profound for me.

Cosmos: surprisingly, the TV series is better than the book. If any of you have the Science Discovery Channel, they are currently running the original Cosmos on Tuesday nights.

I can recommend Cosmos, a good survey of intellectual and scientific history.

Everything Sagan wrote is worth looking at.

Pale Blue Dot is probably somewhat out of date at this point, bu tif you are interested in the subject matter (colonization of the solar system) I'm sure its pretty good, as I say everything he wrote is worth while.

I'm going to be in the minority here, but I enjoyed the movie Contact more than the book. I had waining interest in the novel up until they actually board the sphere.

It can't be that out of date, can it? It's one his most recent books, from 1995.

Do you have any better suggestions on the topic Pale Blue dot deals with perhaps?
