Hi. New to this. I'm trying to find the title of a novel with only a vague description. Children/youth join a monastic type community from the outside world and are eventually slotted into jobs and other communities which have particular specialties (possibly math and language). There families occasionally visit, involving entrance through a special door. Some of the older members of the community are cast out, there is some sort of clockworks and one of the young people secretly observes a ceremony. Eventually there is a journey (of course) and some of the main characters end up in some sort of space station or space travel situation. I know this is vague. THANK YOU.
Also, posted in fantasy section, not sure of the genre. If this violates a rule, I apologize.
