robot/android(?) with humanity's dna encoded on arm

Years ago in a CCG magazine they were running down sci-fi books that would make great RPG settings.

They described a story where someone, possibly an android, ends up at the end of the book with all of humanity's dna encoded on his arm.

I'm sorry I don't know much more but I'd love to know if anyone recognizes this vague description.
