Hi, I've been thinking a lot lately and I think the one thing I'd like to see would be a protagonist that turns villain somewhere in the book/series. I'm certain this has been done before but I can't for the life of me dredge up any titles. Anyways, just wondering if you guys might recommend something to satisfy my "twisty" mood. :)

Actually becomes a villian? Or would someone viewed as a villian work?

i've actually finished the first book of a series in which this happens.
my protagonist learns that he has a special destiny, and in fulfilling it, he does some pretty nasty things. all the good guys have to rally against him in the end, so he essentially becomes the villain, but also manages to fulfil his destiny by becoming a force that unites the people of the world.

It is a plot that they look at alot in Dragonlance and Forgotten Realms right from the first trilogy by Weis & Hickman to the guy that became god of hate in the Realms.

That actually sounds pretty good, would you mind sharing the name?

my first book is called "Kindred" and i haven't got a publisher for it yet. it's about a young prince who can instinctively speak the languages of the three races of his world. it becomes apparent that his destiny is to unite these three races, but the twist at the end is they will unite "against" him when he goes a bit cooky. :)the series will be five books long and it will take three books for him to go bad (he will essentially become the enemy, but i am hoping i can make the reader understand how he came to be that way and perhaps even sympathise with him).

If you're talking 'viewable' as a villain...then I'd say the Thomas Covenant books. I couldn't endure them (fabulously written as they are), because they were so *&@@ depressing...so, beyond the first two books, I can't say much.
There's always Wagner's Ring Cycle--not that it's a book or anything (the Opera, of course) ;) Wagner's such a bad, bad man because he gives you a hero that you really can't love. Grrr. :D
I don't know of anything, though, where the hero begins as a villain and you discover it later...

Excellent suggestions. However I am still looking for a hero that starts as your ordinary good guy and either has something terrible done him or just "decides to go bad."
