I've heard many great things about Charles de Lint's works, so I've ordered a volume containing three of his Newford books. What do you guys think of his stories?

I am probably not the best person to answer this, as I have not read too much by deLint. However, what I have read, I have liked quite a bit, and I have 2 more of his books waiting for my attention. One of my friends is a huge deLint fan, and swears he is a god. *g*

I've read 2 by De Lint:
Memory and Dream not too bad.

The Little Country EXCELLENT. Story within a story, good fantasy overall.

Fitz,

What is the Little Country about? Just a few words would suffice and be much appreciated.

I've read The Little Country some years back and agree with FF. I really liked the atmosphere De Lint created, kind of magical in itself...
Bel, it's about a young woman who returns to her Grandfather's home in Cornwall, where she discovers a manuscript written by a mysterious friend of her grandfather. The tale in the manuscript eventually draws her into a magical faery world, a world which begins to seep across the borders of the real world...
I found it to be a wonderful story.

FYI, Firebird Books are re-printing several de Lint books this fall ... The Dreaming Place and The Riddle of the Wren. :)

I read The Ivory and the Horn a little while ago (it's a collection of short stories). To be honest, I wasn't very impressed. There were some interesting characters, but in general the stories were very slow moving and I found the book difficult to get through, even though it isn't that long.

That's the only thing of De Lint's I've read however. I might like his novels more; it's kind of hard to get into a collection of short stories, it's just not the same.

I tried to get into The Riddle of the Wren but failed. Oh well, I'll try another time.
