Anyone read his work particularly the Necroscope series, I don't think anyone, even Rice, has created such a vivid vampire world.

I have, at least the first few. It was a long time ago (I keep meaning to reread them) but I remember that they were VERY vivid, and fast-moving. Much less romanticized than Rice, IMHO.

I've read them all and I would reccomend his Necroscope to any horror fan.

His vampires make Anna Rice's creations and the buffy stuff look like The Tweenies.

necroscope rulz

his books bring out new ideas in the idea of vapire. i mean anne rice is a horror writer sort of all over the places with books like interview with a vampire and merrick abut they are quite far flung.

lumley centre's his world on the wamphyrie-he renamed the vampyre-no one has attempted such a thing that I NO ABOUT.

no there author i no comes close to writing vamp books lumley diffinately ruls here

he is one of the reasons i came onto horror-lookin to see if ne body has heard of his genius

brilliant!!!!!!!!!

I really haven't yet read Lumley's Necroscope Series, though I will once I've finished reading his Mythos Omnibus Series. I am curious though, have anyone of you read his novel Beneath the Moors, is it any good?

I've read it. Nothing to write home about, but neither is most of Lumley's work, with the exception of a couple of stories. BENEATH THE MOORS is a fairly generic Mythos novel about a race of subterranean dwllers. Somewhat reminiscent of Lovecraft's THE MOUND.

I couldn't get past the first page of the first Necroscope novel. Some long convoluted paragraph about an office building, if I remember right.

At the time I wondered --if Lumley doesn't understand how important it is to hook a reader quickly -- or at least not totally turn them off -- what else doesn't he know about writing?

I realize his books have been very successful, so it's probably just me, being picky.

But I thought that was a really rotten way to start a story. Life's too short.

No, it's not just you. Success is relative; the Necroscope books are quite popular, but mostly among young male readers, it seems. Lumley does have some good stories, such as "Fruiting Bodies", and I recall that the first volume of the Titus Crow series was entertaining. I met Lumley recently at WFC and had a nice time chatting with him and his wife, mostly about Derleth and Arkham House. Like Ramsey Campbell, Lumley was discovered by Derleth.

can one of you poms go round to Brian Lumleys place and sit there threateningly until he writes a new Necroscope series, preferably an extremly long one !

I read the first 3 and then couldn't find the strength to read any more. He's written loads anyway hasn't he? This is one pom who won't be fulfilling your request.

Good luck with the Ashes next time. :)
