I was just wondering what everyone here thinks about bookplates? I offer them to readers of my books as a way of saying thanks, and as they are personally signed by myself, I guess it becomes something unique, a little like a signed copy I suppose.
Is it something that you all find interesting to have? They seem to be quite popular and I usually get orders for them every month. If you're not sure what I'm talking about, these are my BOOKPLATES (http://www.wn.com.au/clubclad/erebus/plates.htm), which I offer through my web site.

Yes, I think bookplates are a good idea, especially for someone who tends to lend their books out. I used to have teddy bear book plates in all of my books when I was a kid, and I've been meaning to get some bookplates for my adult library (preferably not with teddy bears though).
Putting my name in the front of a book makes me feel good for some reason. Probably it's because I'm proud of my library and posessive of my books. I'm sure lots of people feel the same way.
Of course there are probably other people who feel that putting something sticky in the front of a book is defacing it in some way, but those are only the crazy people. :D

Yes, Erebus, bookplates are a great idea when you can't get the book signed in person. If you can't see the person in reality, then it's not a bad alternative!
People like Easton Press include them in their books as a matter of course, though I haven't often seen them used!
I was sent some lovely ones from Mike Moorcock for my Eternal Champion books (with a picture of Elric on) and Robin Hobb does a nice line in clear plastic see-through bookplates (with a cockatrice on!) that look very smart when stuck in the books.
They make my prized possessions even more special. :D

I guess I've never heard of book plates before. But they look neato, hmmm... *thinks about ordering one for Reflections, which he has gotten, but not yet read, but decides to read the book first, which could be a few months yet*
I still not sure what purpose they have, do you put them in your books? Or how do they work? Hmm...

Killer Chicken, here is the definition of a bookplate from Webster's dictionary:
n. a label with the owner's name or some identifying design or words on it, for pasting in a book.
That's it. It's just a way of letting everybody know, THIS BOOK IS MINE. You can get some very attractive and artistic bookplates these days too. You simply stick them inside the front cover.

Oh, okay, and I could get one with say, Erebus's autograph in it? Neato. But yeah, I'll have to read his book first.

Yes, all my bookplates are personally signed by myself, to make them a little unique - I hope! :)
For those who still aren't sure what I mean, just check the link in my first post in this thread. Thanks for all your feedback, btw!
