I read a book when I was a teenager about a planet on the opposite side of the sun; the hero was a red headed man who was "kidnapped" away to this planet dominated by giant ants who monitored the activities of humans via orbiting satellites. They eliminated scientific advancement in the forms used for warfare by destroying the item (ie. gunpowder)/human by laser like weapons from the satellites. The human civilization was primitive and warriors rode on giant birds. I would like to reread the book series but cannot remember title nor author. Anybody remember a book or series like this?

Was the planet Counter-Earth? Though I haven't read the books, I'd guess you are remembering Gor by John Norman.

Start with Tarnsman of Gor by John Norman, though you will find the series which starts off like a second rate ERB pastiche, rapidly spirals into peculiar female bondage obsessive stuff.

Thanks for the help. I found it to be the one and same.
