Spam!

Does anyone else think the incidence of spam on this board is out of control?
I realise that it isn't leaking out of the general forum too much, but even in that forum normal topics are getting spamulated (or whatever the term is). And it frustrates me a bit. I don't enjoy following a normal, viable discussion for a page or so then having the discussion somehow turn into a discussion of a members avatar/imaginary sword/imaginary physical attributes, or even a discussion in another thread.

So my suggestion:
A spam forum. Right there between the general forum and the TV forum. Let the spammers spam away, and be a bit stricter with the general forum.

Well, that my two cents. I may be the only one on the whole board that feels this way, and if so I'll gladly pull my head in.

And let the discussion begin.

Well, you will find that the issue of spam has been discussed nearly as much as there is spam itself! :) We don' t need a separate Spam forum, however, we are asking all members to be mindful of the Note to Members in the GD section, as well as other notices and comments regarding the posting of unnecessary spam.

Thanks for your feedback

I actually agree with you both. Spam can be annoying, but it does not need to have it's own forum. While many others get into the act, (like they have always done) recently there have been three primary spammers. Juzzza, Shanoncia, and ME. Juzzza has seemed to cut back a bit, and I am trying. Shanoncia has been giing it her all, but quite frankly, that is not very much. It all truly began when Juzzza started posting in earnest. Many of the "regulars" got caught up in it to do the same. now they are all dropping away. So it is my prediction that spam will go back to it's normal levels in a few weeks. Please hold out until then. :D

Too busy to spam now... Must rush, bye...

Seriously, As Shef so kindly pointed out apart from his finger, Spam levels are dropping. I have something a lot more constructive to focus on, for the benefit of SFFW I hope, so I do apologise Eventine and PROMISE, that I will as per my tagline, fade into the shadows... Unless something interesting grabs my attention.

Good, I'm glad that this fad is dying away. I didn't mind it when it was in ModModerators or the Yawning Portal, but it was really starting to bother me a lot. So I'm glad that SFFW is going back to the way it was.

I have definitely been trying to cut back, but sometimes it's hard. People just type a quick little quirk at ya, then you wanna say something back. It did get bad for a while, but I can't honestly say I think it's an issue. I made a thread for people to spam in, but no one really seems interested...

I think it's ridiculous to point fingers at the spam lords (and ladies)... Almost everybody has done it once in a while and no guilt is greater. You do or you don't, end of story. But Erebus warned us all, we reveiwed the rules, and calmed down.

Most of the threads there is still spamming on are just general discussion threads that the main topics has already been overdiscussed by everybody... my point is, it's really only an issue if somebody wants to make it one by complaining. I think it's alright now. :)

Seen this sort of thing ebb and flow on various forums.

It is in a way, the way folks get to know each other. It's like when you met folks and make friends for the first time you tend to talk a lot. Then you find you don't have too.

I enjoy this forum, it is for me a place to relax.

Else where I often have to wear the serious admin hat and it does stop folks talking to you....

I find only those there that knew me before I got given the "hat" treat me as my old self..

New comers tend to side step or think twice before having a joke.

I often find that sad...

A joke, even in the middle of a serious thread can break the tension if folks are getting heated....

Bit of a waffle there sorry......

I have noticed that two of you did not appreciate my so called flipper pointing. I am sorry if offended you but I will not retract my statement. That is how I feel and I stand by it. Just think of this, you are both part of the staff now but I am not.:) Have a great day.:D

I say let people have some fun if they want to, don’t really see much harm in it as long as it’s kept to the General Discussion section as long as we also try to respect the serious threads that are posted there. I know it can get a bit out of hand at times, but I must say that I get the feeling that most of the forum members have enjoyed this quite a bit and I think it even might have made us become a stronger community in some ways, and yes I’m serious now...

I must also say that I certainly don’t have the time to follow every thread that is posted in the forums and therefore I’m a bit selective in what I chose to spend my time reading. My point being that if some people uses parts of the GD section to have some fun I can just ignore those threads if I want to, and as Neil points out, if we are able to keep the serious threads serious this should really be a win win situation for everyone.

Well, hope that made some sense at least :)

Wow Dag, I couldn't have said it better myself. A very simply but eloquent post. Great read, thanks. :D
