Gollancz opens sci-fi Gateway to e-books
20.07.11 | Graeme Neill
Thousands of out of print science-fiction titles will be available digitally, after Gollancz launched the world's largest science-fiction and fantasy library, the SF Gateway.
The gateway will launch in September with more than 1,000 titles available by almost 100 authors. Launch authors include the likes of Marion Zimmer Bradley, Philip K Dick, Frank Herbert and Arthur C Clarke. Gollancz will build the list to 3,000 titles by the end of 2012 and 5,000 or more by 2014. The books will be available through all major e-retailers but pricing has yet to be determined.

Sorry, pox, but you need to start a post with a bit more than just a URL.

Thanks for raising this, pox.
Here's the official site:

Does sound very exciting.
Two further points, as I understand it: 1) it will be SF and Fantasy; 2) It will be available globally.
Though it's not been announced yet, I understand that the pricing will be on par with other digital outlets (by that I'm assuming the Kindle, for example.)
So: will you use it? And what would you like to see there?

If we're looking at stuff that's not been in print for a while then I really have no idea. Will be interesting to see while browsing I think.

I'd like to see PKD's Counter-Clock World on there. I've wanted to read it ever since my A-Level Chem teacher told me about it due to how it deals with a reverse in entropy or something like that.

Don't know how definite this is, but the Gollancz SF & Fantasy Masterworks series are most likely to be amongst the first.
So most of these 100 (http://grahamsleight.com/sf-masterworks/), if not all, for starters.
and these 50 Fantasy (http://www.listal.com/list/the-gollancz-fantasy-masterworks).
Thinking it through further: if those authors are already on the Gollancz list then other books by the same author are very likely.
So: expect all/most of PKD, for example, as he's been mentioned already by Gollancz: no doubt including Counter-Clock World, Loerwyn!

I do hope so!
I thought the Gateway was supposed to be more about out of print works, though? Surely rereleasing the Masterworks series is an exercise in futility as I would guess that many of them are still currently in print and also available as eBooks.

Well, yes, but that's not to say others will be included.

Not all of the Masterworks are currently available as ebooks at the moment, are they? As/if people move to ebooks I can see them wanting more ebooks, or possibly some to complete sets.
Some of those Masterclass paper books are going out of print.

Oh, I didn't realise that. It's a fair set of books to open with, nevertheless.
