Epic fantasy? Urban fantasy? Light fantasy? YA fantasy? Childrens Fantasy?
As for me, I like light/YA fantasy, and some childrens. :) This does not mean that I'm a kid or that I have the mind of a child, but I like the style of YA/light fantasy ... no explicit sex (I'm fine with off-screen sex, or innuendos of something happening), nothing too gloomy, dark, heavy, and depressing, but it still has the great plot, involving storyline, awesome characters, adventure, etc.
I like the occasional epic fantasy, but sometimes I have to slog through it and then take a break from fantasy afterwards ...
What about you all?

Ive been steadily leaning away from epic or "standard" fantasy for a year or so now. I dont want to read about a good guy who gradually discovers his powers over 2000 pages to defeat some horrible yet completly cardboard evil. Ive been reading some more delint, mieville, powers, and carrol lately, and im still on the look out for any gene wolfe that i dont own. Darker fantasy still appeals to me, martin, hobb, stoover, etc are what i read for pulp or limited thinking books... whatever you wanna classify them as.

Epic. I seem to enjoy a series more than I do a indvidual book. I like all types of fantasy but the big epics just suck me in.
The only YA/kids fantasy I read is Artemis Fowl, Lemoney Snicket and Harry Potter.

I only started reading fantasy recently (with the exception of the Steve Jackson / Ian Livingstone, Fighting Fantasy series when I was younger). I've read all of Feist and he's great. He's what I term light fantasy. I read Lord Of Rings and enjoyed it. Now I'm on the 9th Robert Jordan, Wheel of Time book. I absolutely love the series and don't find it overwhelmingly long like some. He's a lot more detailed than Fiest, so I don't mind light or heavy.

My first love has always been epic fantasy, but I've pretty much run the well dry with these books. I'm a snob about this area and only like good quality stuff. Most of what comes out these days seems like crap, IMO. ;)
Lately, I've been checking out some urban fantasy like Gaiman and de Lint and also some 'non-traditional' fantasy like the stuff by China Mieville. I've also been reading a lot more science fiction.

Red Eagle your avatar is getting better and better by each one!:D
As for me I like epic fantasy most of all. Jordan, Feist, Eddings - these authors don't have equals in their catagory. The catagory of Epic Fantasy. As Red Eagle said the epic fantasy suck me in.
The only YA/Chlidren fantasy I've ever read is "Harry Potter series" of J.K. Rowling, "Artemis Fowl series" as Red Eagle (similar tastes ?) and the books of Astrid Lindgren - "Ronia the Robber's Daughter" and "Lionheart Brothers". Oh and I forgot the books of Clive Staples Lewis ("Chronicles of Narnia"). These series is marvelous! Red Eagle, you gotta read it soon - it's even equal to HP!

I'll say traditional meaning magic/power involved. The setting does not matter though an "epic" (pre-industrial) is the most common. Zelazny did it best. Martin, Feist, Saberhagen. Anything from LotR to American Gods. Can be epic, light, YA and urban ocasionally.
Are we missing some sub-types?

The YA fantasy I like are books by Robin McKinley, Sharon Shinn's Summers at Castle Auburn, Patricia A. McKillip's Riddle-Master Trilogy, and some others like that. In childrens I like of course the Narnia chronicles, and Harry Potter.
