Wow, I've been lurking sffworld for years and never knew this forum was here. Anyway...
My friend read a book a long time ago about an AI that lives on the moon (hence the thread title). This AI is trying to rescue/wake up a group of astronauts that are cryonically stored on a spaceship somewhere at the edge of the solar system. To do so, the AI launches a series of self-assembling robots out to the spaceship that, during the trip, slowly build themselves into something that will be able to help the frozen astronauts.
That's it. I don't know if this is the main plot of the novel, a side story, something recounted by one of the characters, or a half-made up dream my friend had while reading the novel. All I know is that this is the only detail of the story my friend can remember.
Help?
And thanks in advance.
