Hi, I was just wondering what some of your opinions were on Llyod Alexanders writings...!?
I just reread The High King, and even though most book stores insist on placing them in the kids or youth section I thought they were great, and not at all something I'd let my 7 or 8 year old read. The only thing I felt sligtly childish about it was Eilonwy's (sp?) complaints. :)
So what do you think about the books? Yea :D or nay  ??

I've had the first few books in the Pyridian (I probably spelled that wrong, sorry) series for quite a while now but haven't gotten around to reading them. I did read a couple of his books when I was younger (The Cat Who Wished to be a Man and Time Cat) and while I don't remember many details about either books, I do remember liking them. :)

Lloyd Alexander is one of my favourites ad has been since I was twelve. I have read most of his books, even though they are aimed at younger readers. I still love them.

I always forget Loyd's books. They were among the first ones I read as a kid. I remember liking them because they were nice, basic sword and sorcery stories.;) Weren't the based on Welsh myth?

Yes, they were loosely based on welsh myth.

I really like the world of Prydain. My 5th grade teacher read The Book of Three and the Black Cauldron to the class. It really captured my imagination. So much so that I went to the library and read the rest of the series. I guess it was my 1st introduction to fantasy and made me open to reading the Hobbit and LOTR.
I also love that Taran was an assistant pig keeper but went on all these adventures.
Last year I bought the whole series and reread them and happily it has not diminished and I just turned 27!:p

Funnily enough there were only 2 authors I ever borrowed from my high school library (I mostly borrowed from the town library):
Lloyd Alexander and John Whyndam, author of the book with the same name as the poster above me!
Which has just made me remember great books like Day of the Triffids and The Kraken Wakes(name ???)
I might have to go for a reread.

I don't remember any specifics about the books - but they were what hooked me on epic type fantasy over 20 years ago! I bought the omnibus collection from the Science fiction book club, just so I would have it on my shelf and maybe get my kids reading it someday.

Alexander wrote the Prydain chronicles after reading The Mabinogion. Which is a collection of welsh myth and legends. I don't know how closely his works resemble it having not read the Mabinogion.
