Many times I have searched through this forum in search for a large thread discussing J V Jones. Yet I find none, hence this lead's me to believe she is highly underrated.

I am almost near completing Book one in The Book of Words Series, Titled The Bakers Boy.

And it is an amazing book, I believe more people should be discussing her work as much as we have people talking about G.R.R.M (To the point where most *New* threads are locked!)

I agree completely mordread . For me it is the way her story came to life in my mind that had me reading until there was nothing left .

I'm in love with her writing style and stories so much I'm going to finish "The Book Of Words" series, then read the stand alone noval "The Barbed Coil", and then finally read her new series "Sword Of Shadows".

Just plain bloody excellant fantasy. I never read a series in a row, but I will fo these books :D

Aussies rule!!!

Anyway , I'm sure you won't be dissapointed . 'A Cavern of Black Ice' was a pretty good read and 'The Barbed Coil' is one of my alltime favorites! Happy reading.

I know there was a lot of interest in her stuff back over the winter... specially about the delay in the release of A Fortress of Grey Ice

Susan...

Her first series was The Book Of Words... it is the classic local boy makes good scenario... with a spoiled princess to boot. But it is very good... with patches of wicked humour thrown in... there is also a good plot going between the 2 'baddies'... they are constantly trying to get one up on each other... usually to amusing results. Also... Bodger and Griff... two men at arms are so totally funny... one is always giving the other totally outrageous advice. But the books are serious in the main plot...

1. The Bakers Boy
2. A Man Betrayed
3. Master And Fool

She then did a stand alone novel... The Barbed Coil, which is nothing less than genius IMHO... it is a crossover book, but she (like Donaldson) makes her character react in a believable during the days just after the crossover. I will never understand why she left this as a single book... it has so much potential.

Her current series is the Sword Of Shadows... her most darkest tale to date... and it is shaping up to be an excellent series...

1. A Cavern Of Black Ice
2. A Fortress Of Gray Ice

She has a very good web site.... JVJ.com (http://www.jvj.com)

I couldn't get into her Book of Words at all, but "Cavern" is an absolute favorite of mine. An interesting plot, well written, with excellently portrayed characters - very real, and believablely flawed, imo.
