anti-elves

I'm writing a novel ( good gracious...who isn't here???) where the Elves were so selfish and haughty, their god sent a metorite to scatter them (like the Babalyonians) and made them forget their magic (and the source of their sense of superiority) and they live now rather like the American Indians did before the Europeans came - but they have been so long despised by the people they oppressed that no one seems to care they are slowly disapearing from the face of the world... anyway... I digress

I do get sick of those fair creatures. I rather liked Tolkiens elves, because I felt as if they were "sad" and when they acted "superior" they got put in their place or lectured - and every race found their little "niche" in ME - it really seemed equal to me - but the D&D elves... elves in so many novels are so... superior it makes me want to barf... My point was originally to say - I'm so sick of elves being portrayed as superior - I used to love to knife the elves in the back in D&D (because even people who played them got this idea they were somehow superior to the people playing dwarves, humans and halflings...) - anyone have any good anti elf stories or know any anti elf novels?

well, Grunts by Mary Gentle is from the point of view of orcs and so is pretty anti-elf. Plus it has some very anti-elf moments.

Yup, elves are pretty annoying sometimes, aren't they?
Cool idea. :)

I could'nt agree more. Unfortunatly I can't think of any novels with anti-elves. I hope you finish your story, that is one I would like to read.

It's not the elves that are annoying, but the writers who don't give them any dimension and portray them badly. If the elves are written that badly, I doubt there's much hope for the rest of the book.

I'm not saying I don't like the elves... I'm just saying they are so often portrayed as "lofty" and know it alls. I liked ALL the elves in Tolkiens books (but I didn't really like the books themselves) - I even find Dritz anoying at times. There are lots of good non anoying elves in books. But there are far too many MORE anoying elves!!

Yeah, i think they're is to many "stereotype" elves. But I like the idea of redisigning a classic race to fit your story.

Williams did it best with the Trolls, Dwarrows and especially the Sithi.

Terry Pratchett is slightly anti-elf, i think.
i havent read his book on elves though...someone else will have to remember what it was called.
but elves in his books always get beaten up good by dwarves and trolls.

Many of the elves in my series, "Daeglo's Bane" Are dark, sick, twisted creatures of the night... in fact the main character is one bad, bad girl. Corrupted by her ever growing power... lusting for fulfillment in her heart... mastered byy a dark demi-god... it get's interesting. :) There is is also a genre of humans... very similar to modern day goths... the are very dark.. dress on in black, where spiked jewelry, paint there faces... colour there hair... these people are nuts and ery scary... but the irony is that there heart is in the right place... unlike the 'civilzed men of society'.
