I remember reading this trilogy a few years ago, at that time there was only 3 books so i think it was a trilogy. Can't remember the author/title of books. Was going through my book collection, but it looks like after i moved some of my books where lost. I have been trying for the last 3 months to figure this out. So here is what i can remember of the books.

This is what i remember from the books. The main character starts out in a school for some type of magic use. He is not really interested in it and is kicked out or asked to leave. Forced to join the army. He is really good soldier/leader moving up the ranks. His love interest/wife comes from the trading/merchant class. He uses knowledge to help her start a trade company. Pretty sure they use there initials in the name of company. He marries her in secrete from his parents in a small town he is station in. After doing to good of a job and having to many rivals disappear he is asked to return to capital and help out with the commander of the army. His sister is forced into marriage with a old school mate and i am pretty sure she ends up killing her self. His father was the kings secrete assassin/cleaner. At the end he is the last person left alive from a group of individuals the king has been watching to see who will be successor. He ends up being the king and his best friend ends up being his assassin/cleaner.

So if any one can help me remember what the name of the author/series it would be a real help.

It sounds to me like one of the books from the Recluce saga by L E Modessitt Jr. , but they are not usually trilogies.

It may be Modesitt's Corean Chronicles series.

Thanks for the help. But it is not the Corean Chronicles or Recluce Saga series of books. I am pretty sure it was from a less known author.
