I am familiar with the overall format of structuring a proper Query Letter submission via snail mail, the ol school letterhead approach but does one have to submit this way via e-mail? Or can it be less formal, such as:
From: Mr. My Name
To: Mr./Miss/Ms./Mrs. Agent
Subject: Query; My Book
Dear Mr. Doe
Just wondering what the trend is with e-mail submissions
Thanks

Back "in the day" when I used to submit my wife had done quite a bit of resarch on this topic. The general concensus is that email not have "letterhead" or extra stuff. Make sure all your contact is at the bottom but don't put the formal address of the company etc at the top like you normally would for snail mail.
People want to have the "least" amount of stuff to go through as possible - so get right to the point.
My 2 cents worth at least.
