I'm posting this in the GD because I don't really know what forum it should go in... And we don't have a Junior Readers forum.

Standard story, I read a book when I was 13, I really liked it, and now can't remember anything more than a few scenes...

Some kids are stuck in a building of stairs... That's it. Like an Escher drawing. I know there were at least two kids, perhaps a few more. They would wander the stairs and talk to each other. I think food would just kind of appear. I don't remember if there were doors, but if there were they are all locked... I vaugely remember at the endin the make it out, and it was all part of an allien experiment, but that really could just be my imagination and time screwing with me...

The only thing I can say for sure is that there were some kids stuck in a big verticle shaft that was nothing but stairs...

It's stuck with me for many years, and now I'm currious why. I'd like to go back and read it to see if I can figure out what it was I liked about it...

Shameless plug, GO READ 'HAVE SPACESUIT, WILL TRAVEL!' Another from my childhood that I've been looking for, d**n local library lost it.

Okay never mind... I did a little looking around and I found it! Any of you ever read House of Stairs, by William Sleator? Here's a review I found, written by a fan.

House of Stairs by William Sleator
I looked through the whole list for a book by William Sleator, cuz' he's awesome, and since there wasn't one I figure I ought to put one up. He writes mostly science fiction novels, I guess they're classified as "young adult" but anyone would enjoy them, he writes very inteligently. House of Stairs is about several young people that are blindfolded and taken and left in the middle of an enormous "building" with no walls, floor, or ceiling, just complex and endless staircases. There's no way to tell where they are or who put them there, and the only sign of the outside world is a large blinking light in the middle of a stairway that gives out food when certain actions are performed. This book is amazing, not just for the fascinating concept, but the characters and how they react to this mind-bending situation. House of Stairs is one of my favorites, but all of William Sleator's books are great. I highly recommend The Green Futures of Tycho (about time travel), Singularity, Strange Attractors (also about time travel), Interstellar Pig... and many others! Plus, he's still writing after 20+ years, so once you realize he's a great writer, you'll have plenty of chances to catch more of his work.

I also read the Tycho book! Funny how I forget these things over time! Now I'm off to my local Library's web page to see if they have it in...

I think I read part of House of Stairs way back when.

I LOVE Interstellar Pig! :) That one was out-of-print for far too long , but was reissued about five years ago. I snagged a copy and read it again. It holds up well.

Yeah, still not sure if I read Pig or not. I think I did, but it just doens't ring enough bells.. I know I read the back cover though...

My library doesn't have a copy of Stiars... bummer, I'll keep digging and see what I can find...
