oops... sorry J!!! I forgot about this...
The thing that jumped out to me about both pictures was the brilliant composition... in both shots the brook in the forground leads the eyes into the view... the second picture is particularly good with this... leading the eyes the collection of white houses.
The reason I asked about scanning... the hill in the left distance of the second shot seems to lose detail on the side facing the camera... but on most cameras this is a trade off... you can only meter for one area of a scene... I think you captured the mood brilliantly. I am lucky to have an SLR with multispot metering, but it is NOT really too much of a problem... I am impressed.
Not that it really matters of course :D If you like the shots... that is what really matters.
