I remember a story or book.

The story concerns a man who daily solves a newspaper game called (I believe) 'Where's the Alien'. This man consistently is correct in guessing the location and wins many prizes. It turns out, though, that there are real aliens (attacking the Earth?) and the locations the man provides help the defense forces. Somehow, he learns though that he is being used by the government and tries to escape.

I don' remember much more and I believe that it would have been book length rather than a short story only because I seldom read short stories or collections.

Anyone have any information about this book?

Thanks,

Bob

That sounds like a Philip K. Dick short story that I can't unfortunately remember the title of.
It also has some similarities to the plot of his novel The Zap Gun (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Zap_Gun).

I think it is the PKD book TIME OUT OF JOINT. The contest was called "Where Will The Little Green Man Be Next?"

There is a Wikipedia article on it:

I have always been fond of the protagonist's ridiculous name.

Thanks everyone. That sounds exactly like the book I am thinking about and I have it on order. Strange, though, I thought I studiously avoided anything by PKD. lol.
