My first day of classes was today, and when my very brilliant/very gay Greek professor learned that I was double majoring in film, also, he informed me that his favorite (and mine!) actor, Alan Cumming was appearing at Barnes & Noble, and proceeded to give me a schedule of the Meet the Writers September series from the New York Times.
Guess who's appearing on the 18th? Orson Scott Card. He's apparently there to promote the book that I'm guessing that he edited, Empire of Dreams and Miracles, but regardless...
I know a few of you live in the city, so it might be interesting to meet up and attend this discussion/reading/book signing (don't know which one). He'll be at the Citicorp B&N at 12:30pm on Wednesday, September 18 (that's E 54 at 3rd). If you're interested in meeting up, you can e-mail me (athenix@msn.com) and I can try to coordinate. Since I'm new to the city and really only know a few people beyond my boyfriend, it might be a good way to network. It's just a shame Adam won't be back from his job until the day after - he loves Orson Scott Card!
Anyways, let me know! You've already probably all met up, but hey, we newcomers to the city aren't all that bad!
