I know some of you here have read the Taltos series by Steven Brust. I was thinking of starting it, but what book do I start with?
From the research of I've done, I see that Jhereg was published first, but Taltos takes place first in the storyline.
Or does it even matter which I read first?

I'd start with Jhereg, I always prefer the publication order to the chronological. And Brust's Vlad omnibuses are in the publication order so...

Best to start with the Book of Jhereg omnibus, three-in-one

I'd concur with Mithfânion, though Brust makes a disclaimer in the "Author's Note" of The Book of Jhereg:
"In what order would you [Steven Brust] recommend reading these books?" Unfortunately I'm [S.B.] just exactly the wong guy to ask...Many people believ publication order is best. This volume (The Book of Jhereg) reflects that belief. For those who want to read in chronological order, it would go like this: Taltos, Yendi, Dragon, Jhereg, Teckla, Phoenix, Athyra, Orca, Issola.
FWIW, I've personally read the two omnibus editions, which amounts to publication order and think that is just fine, as Mithf. says.
Either way, get a start and these immensely enjoyable books.

That's exactly how I started and I don't regret it one bit. I really enjoyed it, two thumbs way up.:)

For Brust/Vlad Taltos fans...
ACE books here in the US will be publishing The Book of Athyra February of 2003, the third omnibus volume of the Vlad Taltos saga, containing the novels Athyra and Orca, the last 2 Vlad books published by ACE books (the two recent ones were published by TOR).
