Just finished this series and would like your take on the ending.

SPOILER ahead

Okay, is Aenea fated to die again, after her idyl with Raul?

Or is Simmons leaving us free to imagine another ending after their time is through and the child is born? Possibly a time-shift escape, or a Shrike rescue?

Is it necessary for her to die in order that her message have meaning?

Does Simmons just want us to THINK? Personally, I did enough thinking through these books, and a neatly wrapped tied-with-a-bow conclusion would have suited me just fine.

What do you think?

I think she dies at the end..

But, perhaps, it's to make you think... and, like you said, we had to think through the entire series, why not make you think at the end.

I prefer that...Makes me wonder.. And, that is why I loved the Hyperion series.

I pray that one day, Dan Simmons returns to that universe.

My gosh -- I'd forgotten that I'd posted this. Thanks!

I agree -- wouldn't mind more Hyperion stories either.

Meant to post earlier, but, I lost my password, got it, and was just lazy. =)

By far, Hyperion and Endymion sets were my favorite books of all time. I primarly read only Fantasy/Scifi... And, wow...Hyperion Cantos.. Simply amazing.. I look forward when I get the chance (So many other books to read) to re-read the entire 4 part series!

Are you reading GRRMartin's Song of Ice and Fire series? The third is due in October.

Yep, but, I've only read the first one, and have the second in HC. I heard the next one is out in Oct as well.. So, I might read 2 & 3 together .. Though, I am worried this series is going to take forever to finish. I think it's suppose to be 5 books in length.

Though, Song of Fire and Ice far exceeds Wheel of Time in my eyes.

Actually 6 books.
He even said what will be the names of the other books.
4-A dance with dragons
5-The winds of winter
6-A time for wolves

About Hyperion... i think there should be a sequel about the lions and the bears...

Finished A Storm of Swords a couple of weeks ago. This is one series that isn't deteriorating. Now what? Another year or more for the next one? Sometimes I wish that, like Simmons' Hyperion, I wouldn't have started reading until it was all done.

Isnt the Hyperion series done? I mean, it was 4 books.. Ended with the Rise of Endymion? Or does Simmons plan to do a new series? If so, that'd be wonderful..=)

Keyoke -- we got off of Hyperion and started talking about George R. R. Martin's series.

As far as I know, Hyperion ends with the fourth book.

Martin's series will be six. It's really good.
