Name that story

I'm looking for a a Sci-Fi short story that I read in High School. I think it was an Asimov, or P.J. Farmer story.

It was about a man who was offered a chance to move to another galaxy, he pays and signs up but of course he isn't completely convinced. The big day arrives and he and others are taken by rickety bus to a rickety barn where they are told to wait for the transport. While they wait he's thinking he and everyone else has been ripped off, so he runs outside to see if he can find the con men, but there's nobody around. he goes back into the barn and everyone else is gone....

That's "Of Missing Persons" by Jack Finney.

That's it Thanks... I had remembered the travel agent's tale about the back to back apartment buildings but thought it was an introduction.

We read this story as part of a Sci Fi class in HS. We were supposed to read a book a week (9). I read 23 books and several short stories.

Turned me into a huge Heinlein fan when we read The Moon is a Harsh Mistress.
