I was just curious to know if anybody here was familiar with the "Bazil Broketail" series by Christopher Rowley. I have recommended the books to every fantasy reading friend I have and they have all loved the series. The odd thing is that nobody seems to have heard of this guy. So I am taking this opportunity to shamelessly promote my favorite author. Do yourself a favor and read this series. It is a seven book series(approx. 400-500pgs ea.) that concluded back around 2000.

The author takes a fresh approach to dragons as well as their relationship with humans. Indeed, the author's imagination is sure to, at least, leave an impression on you. The very first book contains perhaps the most innovative "bad guy" of any series I've ever read. Anyhow... great sleeper author.

If anyone has ever read these books I would love to know what you think, be it good or bad.

Fitz, this doesn't strike me as a thread that asks for recommendations.... I think the question is about this one particular series.

I must admit i really didn't read the body of the topic, just the title. Based on that I posted the links.

I read the first three books. I really liked them because they're is lots of action and good dialogue between Relkin and Bazil. I took a break because i couldn't find Battledragon anywhere and i started reading WOT. I think Rowley is easy to read but still really good writing. I'm searching for book four and when i find it i will be glad to read it. Overall I like them.

kassimir funk: Oh good, somebody mentioned C. Rowley.

I've read the 1st 2 books of the Broketail series and it's one of the most depressing worlds I've ever read. And I like it. Ya know, the world teetering on the brink of destruction. But what I like about Rowley's stuff is that-- unlike other fantasy books which specifies only an exact time and date and there's a countdown to it-- everyday is a day on the brink on destruction. Read it to find out.

It's also very good military fantasy. Not at par with Cook's Black Company though equal perhaps to Marco's Jackal of Nar.

Thom: Right now, I have almost all the books except for Battle Dragon, so I can sympathize.

I've seen these books on the shelves and always passed them by since on the exterior, they seem a bit light and fluffy.

Sounds more intersting than I originally thought.

I have read (and enjoyed) all of the books in this series. The world is definitely dark, but the characters are light-hearted enough to balance it out. Plus, two-ton dragons weilding giant swords is just plain cool.

The only thing I can think of that annoyed me about the series was the lack of world building it contained. I suppose from the viewpoint of an uneducated orphan in the middle of an army it makes sense, though. Even still...

The more I think about it, the more I want to re-read the series. I think I will.

You're right mif. My bad. Must of forgot that part. I just discovered this board about three days ago so it's taken me a bit to peruse all the topics. From what I have gathered Martin seems to be at the top of the list of authors to read.

I have read Robin Hobb(farseer trilogy) and I was thouroughly dissapointed with the ending. Is the Liveship series anything like that?

I would appreciate any other recomendations.
