I am looking for a series of books that involved swords and weapons that were "attuned" to a certain person and could only be used by them. If picked up by someone else, they would die. It is a sci-fi fantasy series but i cannot for the life of me remember it. Seems like it also involved royalty or some such.

This trope is not uncommon in sff and I read a few such across the years, the most recent that comes to mind being John Ringo's Council Wars which has elements of both sf and fantasy
