Is a fact critical to the SF book I read as a kid back in the late 60's early 70's.
A young man who is a budding chemist is involved in a drama in a new FTL spaceship that keeps disappearing in experimental flights between his planet and earth. For some reason I can't remember, he has to travel on one of these flights, and realises that as the ship approaches the SOL every body on board starts aging rapidly (this is where detail gets a bit dodgy), he develops a chemical compound, COMPOUND XXXX (where XXXX is a four or five digit number), he injects the compound, stops aging and saves the earth
roughly!
Anybody help?
Many thanks
Bill.
