Nelson Demille's good if you're into the espionage side of things- A Word of Honour and the Charm School are excellent. He wrote the general's daughter, but that was a crappy film, so I'm a bit weary about getting the book

I dunno, FB - there are so many good books that have been turned into awful films - probably not a fair way to judge it!
Am currently reading Shogun - and trying to resist reading spoilers in the thread on it! Then have to decide whether i wanna read Dead Air, or Whit, by Iain Banks. It's a hard life :D

At the moment, I am reading The Pearl by John Steinbeck. Not sure exactly if it is a parable or just a short story book about a learning lesson! I will get back to you on that! :)

Shayna, there is a more recent thread called Current Non-Genre Reading (http://www.sffworld.com/forums/showthread.php?t=9420) - so maybe you can get back to us about The Pearl there? ;)
To not further confuse this, I think one thread is enough: and that means I am closing this one.
