Hey all!

Thought it might be fun to see what non fantasy/scifi books we're currently reading.

I have quite a stack atm, you see :) - and i don't want to spam the fantasy.science fiction threads by writing them there. Thought i might not be the only one..........

Okay....

I just read 'Atonement', by Ian McEwan. This is a sort of family-drama, set in the 1930s and 40s, and explores how different people, viewing the same event, may interpret it differently - and the possible consequences. It was shortlisted for the booker-prize last year, and is very very good, imo. (Actually does anyone know how i can find out what else was shortlisted?). Sooo - I've bought another of his novels, ''Enduring Love'', to read.

Just finished a short biography called ''Once in a House on Fire'' (forget the author) - a kind of female ''Angela's Ashes'', about growing up in London, which was also good.

Also reading ''Sense & Sensibility'' (Austen :)) atm, and enjoying it, but finding the language hard going - more so than with ''Pride & Prejudice'', actually.

Having a bit of a non-sff 'phase', me thinks :)

I have just put Emma (Jane Austin) on my read list but having managed to finally get my hands on The Man in the High Castle yesterday I'm anxious to read that first.

I tend to go towards adventure, assuming that it is well written. I plan to pick up the latest Clive Cussler: Numa Files. and Tom Clancy's new one, Red Rabbit.

Most of my to-read pile is Fan/SciFi, but there are a few that are not...some Tom Clancy and James Clavell.

I'm just about to read Shogun by James Clavell, hoping it's as good as I've heard.

I've also been slowly reading Heroes of History by Will Durant, which is an overview of the history of civilization, mostly from a cultural point of view, and very interesting.

I'm sort of in the mood to take a little break from fantasy for a while. :)

I have a big, fat stack of Jeffery Deaver books calling out my name. I try to save them though b/c it typically takes me less than a day to read a Deaver, while it takes me a good week to read a fantasy novel. As soon as I finish Fair Peril, a really odd modern fairy tale, I'll treat myself to another Deaver.

I'm also really big on Patricia Cornwell. I love thrillers I guess.

Dude, SHOGUN is the BEST. I loved that book. It totally captured my imagination and sparked my interest in Japanese culture.

I am currently reading two non sf/fantasy books. I am reading David Copperfield and We the Living by Arn Rand. Both are fantastic so far.

I am reading 'Bushcraft - Extreme Survival" by Ray Mears and "The Universe in a Nutshell" by Stephen Hawking (I have two copies BTW, so if anyone wants my spare PM me and I'll gladly send it on... If I like you that is)

I also have many many many many many Marketing Theory books to get my teeth into by gurus such as Michael Porter, Kotler, McDonald and Chris Fill... Oh joy of joys.
