I'd hate to harp on The Fifth Sorceress , and I'll admit that I haven't read it, but, I was just checking the reviews on Amazon. This book has 38 reviews posted and the avg rating is at 2 1/2 stars!

What surprises me is the fact that one rarely sees lots of horrible reviews for most fantasy books that are released nowadays. Especially for overhyped ones liked tFS. If I remember correctly, the last big book to come out where the majority of readers seemed to dislike it was The Redemption of Athalus .

Can you guys remember any other books that, when released, have been billed as 'the next best thing', but turned out to be bombs?

I think that RoA has bad rankings only in amazon.com- in amazon co.uk. its 3 out of 5, if I remember correctly, and in amazon.de it is 3.5 out of 5.

To other books like this - "Pillars of the Creation" by Terry Godkind has bad rank- 2.5/5.

heh I wouldn't call 3-3.5 a good ranking considering most people who actually take the time to rate a book are the ones who actually liked it.

Not that I take any notice of rankings on those sites as well PoD only has 3 stars and WH 3.5. Those people are clueless;).

I should clear up something. The ratings don't necessarily need to come from Amazon.
