I was just wondering what everyone's opinion of Dave Wolverton is. I like him alot, and since I'm new here, I wanted to know if anyone thought the same.
Did anyone read "On my way to Paradise"?

What was On My Way to Paradise like?

I have read some books by Wolverton. They were Golden Queen, Beyond the Gate, and Seventh Swarm. This is a sci-fi trilogy about a human, Maggie Flynn, who becomes the queen of some insectoid aliens and will remain queen as long as her champion defeats all comers. Also her remaining the Queen is important to the survival of human race as the insectoids won't invade Earth as long a Maggie is Queen. It was a good solid adventure read.
I have not read "On my way to Paradise" Based on the trilogy I did read and if he is David Farland and wrote the Runelord series then I think it is safe to think this may be a pretty good read.

Though I've never read the Hive Queen series, IMHO, Wolverton is one of the best. "On My way to Paradise" was very, very good, but I think his "Serpent Catch" and "Path of the Hero" were better. Its set in the same universe as Paradise, and its about a world a group of scientist create in order to study Earth's prehistoric past, and then were trapped there by an alien race who thought humans should not be allowed to roam space. If you've ever read his Runelord series, you have to read his others. His world building is solid, but the way in which he develops his characters is fantastic.
Since Paradise was the first novel he wrote, I think, it is not as formulaic as other fantasy or sci-fi books, but it is original, again with good character development. I don't want to ruin it by telling anything about it, but its kinda about a culture clash between Japanese and Hispanic people, but with futuristic weapons. Good book.

I have to be honest here, about 20 years ago I read a book called Windhaven, and I loved it, now I have never been a fan of Wolverton, in fact I don't like him at all. (but I like Farland, yeh funny). Imagine my shock when I remembered who wrote Windhaven http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/smile.gif

I thought Windhaven was by George RR Martin?
Or is this a different one?

What is Windhaven about? I've never heard about it and I'd like to read it. Do you know where I can find it?

Dennizm, I know you don't like Wolverton. But i thnk you should try reading his Serpent Catch series. They're just two books, and easy to get used through amazon.
Best fantasy I ever read. Especially the second one.
