Once upon a time, I picked up Vernor's Vinge a Fire Upon the Deep... I really wanted to enjoy it, and their were several points in the books that I had read which I enjoyed..
But, part of the book just confused me..So, I gave up.. Should I try the book again and see how it goes? I'm not HUGE into heavy scifi, but, I did like the entire Hyperion-Endymion books, and have recently enjoyed some scifi novels (Uplift) recently..
Thanks

I had a tough time with Vinge as well. I liked the wolfpack idea in AFutD. I tried A Deepness in the Sky and had an even tougher time. Heard it was better than AFutD, so I picked it up. It was TOO techy. Time was measured in this god-awfully annoying kiloseconds or some nonesens. It really took away from what could have been a great novel.

A Fire Upon The Deep was a great book, Vinge has many original ideas.
Pick it up and give it another try, i think The Hyperion Cantos is a more complicated series, if you could read that, no reason you shouldn't be able to read fire upon the deep.

After experiencing A Deepness in the Sky, which was definitely the best SF book I read last year, I could hardly bring myself to reread A Fire Upon the Deep. I'm not sure why anyone would find it (Deepness) too technical. It didn't require any special knowledge and its characterizations of aliens were excellent.
Might want to give Marooned in Realtime a shot if anyone wants an easier run at Vinge...
