Vladimir Kramnick is currently battling to prove that we mere humans are not obsolete in the age of the computer.
After being soundly beaten 5 years ago(Kasparov v DeepBlue), we have rallied and now send out a new champion to face the might of the supercompter at the game of Chess.
Kramnick v DeepFritz is taking place in Bahrain, Kramnick is up 2.5 points to 0.5 points.

If the computer wins, I see it as a victory for humans because we concieved of and manufactured the computer.
The human mind is indeed a marvelous thing.

True Forrest, considering the computer was programmed with the knowledge of dozens of Grandmasters who collectively would give Vladimir Kramnick a very tough game. As many minds come from many perspectives and (even though Kramnick is the single best) he would probably still be out-witted by a group effort.

I'm not too sure you're right there kahnovich -about being outwitted by a group. I don't think chess lends itself very well to group efforts, probably they would never reach a concensus on what move to make next.

You're probably right there, they'd spend more time procrastinating than playing.
I just meant they'd have more variety of pespective and possible strategy.

want tofeel better..?
No computer can come close to a human grand master of Go. Chess is easier, because of fixed starting positions, and clearly defined movements. It is all just math. Go is more complex.
Now, if a computer AI can play a Strategy game with the cunning of a human, I will be impressed...

Mmm, I wish computer AI could be a little more sophisticated. On Red Alert-type games, I just get frustrated playing multiplayer against AI opponents as they play like such duffers:rolleyes:
