Gotta disagree with you Chris. I thought the miniseries was a big letdown. The guy who played Paul completely missed a lot of integral parts of his character as portrayed by the book, IMHO. He played Paul as being a spoiled, petulant brat who could not look at the "big picture", especially in the first two parts of the miniseries. The last part was much better, but I still feel like that guy never quite grasped what it meant to be the Kwisatch Hatterach. Specail effects were pretty cool, though.

I agree w/LadyFox (no connection), I thought the mini-series was weak at best, I have been a DUNE fan since about 1985 when my sister handed me the first book.I managed to read 6 books and find a few others by various authors but none really grabbed me the way the first 3 did. When I heard news of the mini-series 2 years ago, I was understandably excited to see it. It was a letdown IMHO, as the characters were prissy and seemed to snivel and whine throughout. I still prefer the original movie although it is a bit muddled and has some gaping holes in the story. There is nothing like the books for certain. BTW, I am almost through the Harkonnen book and looking forward to the Atreides book. Best wishes to all for a Happy and Prosperous New Year!

I think the film DUNE by David Lynch was great.
Way ahead of its time. One of the sf movies ever.

Ntschotschi... one of two things is happening here...
(a) You have never read Dune
(b) You are going insane http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/smile.gif
The Dune film was awful, okay...it was ahead of its time, but it butchered the book. Anyone who watches this movie, who has not read the book, will think the book is cr#p.
I am being a little tounge in cheek here, and I don't mean to offend

Ups! Have I hit a sensitive nerve here?
Sorry to step on your toe again:
Dune was great as film.
Maybe you're right, that it was not literally the novel which was made into a movie.
But in my opinion it got the atmosphere of Herberts writing.
When I saw the film the first time I agree that I was puzzled. But I've seen it a few times since and it's always better.
Maybe you should watch it again some day.

I enjoyed the miniseries, it was on the SciFi channel in my area. I read the book about 6 years ago and loved it, so perhaps some of the finer details did escape me as I watched the mini-series. Overall, though I thought it was good.
The movie by David Lynch was just replayed on SciFi the other day, and boy is it wierd. Then again, David Lynch is not your typical director.
